Dollars and Democracy: A Guide to the State Budget Process

Last Friday, more than 90 people attended the CBP’s budget workshop in Sacramento. This event included a discussion of the budget process as well as a preview of what to expect in 2014, featuring Craig Cornett, fiscal director, Office of Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

Now available on the CBP website is an expanded version of the budget process presentation. Dollars and Democracy: A Guide to the State Budget Process defines important terms, lays out the budget timeline, and covers the roles and responsibilities of the Governor, the Legislature, and other key players. This in-depth — yet accessible — guide is intended as a resource for new as well as more experienced budget watchers.
